Olugbenga Agboola Continues to Thrive in the Financial Service Industry
Olugbenga Agboola is a well-known entrepreneur and business professional. He currently works as the Co-Founder and CEO of Flutterwave, a financial company based out of San Francisco, California. Founded in 2016, Flutterwave is a digital payments infrastructure that helps banks and businesses process safe, secure payments. Before this lead role, Agboola held the position of Chief Technology Officer for the company.
The organization was founded by Olugbenga and Iyinoluwa Aboyeji. Multiple other professionals helped form this business, including a skilled team of banking, technology, and African payment specialists. These experts had experience working for several reputable financial companies, such as Google Wallet, Standard Bank, Andela, and PayPal.
Aboyeji was originally the CEO of Flutterwave, but stepped down to focus on family and giving back to the startup community. This allowed Olugbenga Agboola to take over the role in October 2018.
Before his time with Flutterwave, Agboola helped develop fintech solutions for many fintech companies and financial institutions, including Standard Bank and Paypal. He’s also a very successful entrepreneur and financial technology engineer. Throughout his career, he has become a Certified Security Analyst, a Microsoft Certified System Engineer, and a Certified Ethical Hacker. With this long list of achievements and high level of experience, Agboola is able to help numerous businesses with their organizational and financial goals.
While Olugbenga Agboola has had a wide variety of accomplishments throughout his career, he also has several academic achievements. He earned his Master of Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, including standard IT security certifications from EC-Council University in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Olugbenga Agboola has also earned a master’s in information technology security and behavioral engineering, as well as a Project Management and Advanced Computing degree from the University of Westminster in London, England.
One of Agboola’s first jobs in the industry was as an Application Developer for British Telecom Professional Services from January 2003 to January 2004. This role helped to kickstart his career in the development space. After this position, Olugbenga worked his way up and took a role at PayPal as an Application Engineer, which also gave him excellent experience. Olugbenga continued to advance, as he later took an Enterprise Infrastructure Solution Development position with Guarantee Trust Bank, a role he held from 2005 to 2009. In April 2009, Agboola earned the position of Transactional Product Development Manager for Standard Bank.
After gaining valuable experience in the industry, Olugbenga Agboola went back to MIT in 2012 to complete the Fundamentals of Finance for The Technical Executive. Additionally, he went on to finish MIT’s Developing a Leading Edge Operations Strategy in 2013. Just one year later, he completed the Essential IT for Non-IT Executives from MIT, including the Supply Chain Strategy and Management program.
In 2020, Olugbenga Agboola announced he raised $35 million to facilitate more payments at Flutterwave, which was used to expand the company’s offerings to other countries.
